Workforce Australia Local Jobs (Local Jobs) is a Government program delivered by NORTEC exclusively within the NSW North Coast Employment Region. The program supports tailored approaches to accelerate reskilling, upskilling, and employment pathways in response to current and emerging local workforce needs.
Job Coordinators and Support Officers drive delivery by bringing together key stakeholders including businesses, employment service providers, higher education, and training organisations.

The Building Women’s Futures program was created in partnership with Richmond Valley Council, Novaskill, and Ungooroo Aboriginal Corporation to support young Indigenous women into non-traditional career pathways in civil construction. Over three weeks, seven participants (aged 18–24) gained valuable skills including a White Card, four accredited units toward a Certificate II in Civil Construction, and hands-on work experience.
Cultural support was provided throughout by the Barranggirra Mentor Program, ensuring participants were guided and encouraged on their journey. The program culminated in a graduation ceremony on 21 August 2025, attended by Richmond Valley Council leadership. A highlight was 18 year old, Ava sharing her inspiring journey as a female trainee in the construction industry, offering a powerful example of what’s possible for future participants.
Commenced in 2020, NORTEC Employment and Training began facilitating the administration of the Local Jobs Program in the North Coast region of NSW to connect job seekers with local employment opportunities and support businesses in filling vacancies through targeted training and recruitment initiatives.
The program services the community by delivering tailored projects that address regional labour market needs, including skills development in key industries like community services, hospitality, and construction, fostering economic growth and sustainable job outcomes.
